Outdoor Canada - Power struggle By embracing green
energy, are we harming wildlife? by Dre Dee. A
must read!
About the Project
Xeneca is proposing to construct the highly controversial
hydroelectric generating facility at the Allan & Struthers
site on the Wanapitei River about 250 meters upstream of the
French River Provincial Park boundary in the Municipality of
Killarney, District of Sudbury.
News: Xeneca joins EarthCare Sudbury. "To achieve these
goals, EarthCare Sudbury has developed a Local Action Plan
(LAP). Our plan provides a blueprint to how we, as a
community, can take action to protect our environment, while
improving our quality of life and building a strong local
economy. "
So, one must ask - what is Xeneca's goal for the Allen
-Sturther's Project?
Background:
Xeneca is
proposing to construct a dam
on the Wanapitei River - this area
above and below the proposed site is a major spawning and
nursery area for the
French River. It will flood a large area above the Sturgeon
Chutes not mentioning opening the area to road access,
flooding a large area, and
potentially further altering the water levels in the Delta.
Wildlife,
flora and fauna will greatly be affected.
Tourism will be affected. We ask for
your help to oppose this by sending an email
to Vanessa Enskaitis at Xeneca.

Dear Vanessa Enskaitis,
I am one of many visitors to
the French River that fish those waters for the elusive
musky, walleye, pike, large and smallmouth bass, and other
species. I fish the Hartley Bay and
Wanapitei area of the French River on the average of 8 days
per year and do my best to help stimulate the tourism and
outdoor recreation economy of the region and Canada in
general.
I am one of many that spend
considerable dollars to enjoy the French River
each year. I am concerned that the
current outdoor recreation resource and experience of the
French River will be greatly effected. This will have serious
economic repercussions on the region,
Ontario, and Canada.
Consequently, I am expressing
my opposition to the Xeneca Allen Struthers Dam Project.
Thank you for taking my
comments into consideration. Please place my name and
contact information on your list to receive further
communications on this project.
